How we use pupil information

 

The categories of pupil information that we process include:

  • personal identifiers and contacts (such as name, contact details and address)
  • characteristics (such as home language)
  • safeguarding information (such as professional involvement)
  • special educational needs
  • medical information relevant to our work (such as involvement of medical professionals, for example speech and language therapists)
  • attendance (such as sessions attended, number of absences, absence reasons and any previous schools attended)
  • assessment and attainment (such as key stage 1 and phonics results)
  • behavioural information (such as exclusions and any relevant alternative provision put in place)

Why we collect and use pupil information

We collect and use pupil information to inform our understanding of your child’s special educational needs, and so that we can provided relevant and informed advice to you and to other adults working with your child.

We only become involved with a pupil when we have signed consent for our involvement from the child’s parent or other adult with parental responsibility.

How we collect pupil information

We collect pupil information from the referral form provided when involvement is requested. Additional information is collected in the course of our involvement with the pupil from:

  • the pupil’s parents
  • school records
  • other involved professionals where relevant

How we store pupil data

We hold pupil data securely for the set amount of time shown in our data retention schedule.

Who we share pupil information with

We share pupil information with:

  • the Special Needs Co-ordinator who has requested our involvement
  • other relevant professionals, for example NHS services involved with your child

Why we share pupil information

We share information so that your child’s needs can be understood and addressed

We do not share information about pupils with anyone without consent unless the law and our policies allow us to do so.

Requesting access to your personal data

Under data protection legislation, parents and pupils have the right to request access to information about them that we hold. To make a request for your personal information, or be given access to your child’s educational record, contact Dr Teresa Regan, Principal Educational Psychologist (mailto:[email protected])

You also have the right to:

  • object to processing of personal data that is likely to cause, or is causing, damage or distress
  • prevent processing for the purpose of direct marketing
  • object to decisions being taken by automated means
  • in certain circumstances, have inaccurate personal data rectified, blocked, erased or destroyed; and
  • a right to seek redress, either through the ICO, or through the courts
